Christy Allen, LL.B., LCCI Christy is one of the founding partners of Davidson Houle Allen LLP. She provides a full range of corporate and litigation services to condominium directors, managers, owners, and insurers. She also represents co-tenancy associations and gives advice with respect to co-tenancies’ governing documents. Christy’s work includes building deficiency actions, proceedings involving difficult owners and tenants, collection and lien proceedings, including power of sale, as well as matters involving the enforcement of property rights. She also has extensive experience with the Tarion Warranty process (including Appeals of Tarion’s conciliation decisions) and is actively involved with the Tarion Subcommittee to the Canadian Condominium Institute. She has appeared on behalf of her clients before the Superior Court of Justice (including the Small Claims Court), the Ontario Court of Appeal, and various administrative tribunals. |
Andrée Ball, LCCI Andrée Ball is the current President of CCI-National and Director of Client Relations for Keller Engineering where the focus is to assist condominium corporations in Ontario and Alberta protect and maintain their assets. She is a long-time volunteer board member of the CCI-Eastern Ontario chapter. Earlier in her career, Andrée worked for 13 years at one of Ottawa's largest property management firms, 8 years as a Property Manager and 5 years as General Manager. The experience that she gained in the condo world, enables her to know exactly what condo clients need. |
Adrian Breitwieser, CRP Adrian Breitwieser is a Capital Planning Specialist delivering assessments for a broad range of project types. Adrian is a Board Member for CCI-S. Alberta and N. Saskatchewan and the Chair of the CCI-National Advertising, Resources, and Communications Committee. With 13 years of experience as a Condominium Manager, Adrian has an intimate knowledge of all aspects related to residential and commercial condominiums including building systems, governance, operating and reserve fund budgeting, and insurance to name a few. His operational experience covers project delivery from start to finish including initial Building Condition Assessments and performance failure investigations; Reserve Fund Studies; Depreciation Reports, Capital Replacement Studies; Building Envelope Condition Assessments (BECA); Building Exterior Visual Assessments (BEVA); Technical Audits; recommendations for restoration and renewal of building envelope systems; and facilitate project administration tasks. |
Dan Campbell Dan retired after a fifty-year career in law practice (but not as a property or condominium lawyer). He is a former president of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (Law Society) and was chairman of the Canadian Lawyers’ Insurance Association, an insurance reciprocal providing liability insurance to the lawyers of ten provinces and territories. He is now president of his own condominium corporation, Halifax County Condominium Corporation No 130, and is a director and chair of the Advocacy Committee of the Nova Scotia Chapter. He is a member of the National Government Relations Committee. |
Patrick I. Cassidy, K.C., B.Comm, LL.B., M.T.S., ACCI, FCCI Pat, is a partner in the law firm of Cox & Palmer and has specialized in the area of Condominium Law since 1982. He acts for most of the condominium corporations in Nova Scotia as well as developers of condominium and fractional projects throughout Atlantic Canada. A Past Chair of CCI National and the CCI–NS Chapter. He is a frequent writer for various publications and a lecturer and teacher for several institutions across Canada and America including Dalhousie Law School. |
Armand Conant, LL.B., B.Eng, DESS (Sorbonne), DSA Armand Conant heads up the Condominium Law Group at Shibley Righton LLP and represents numerous condominium corporations of all types across Ontario. He is a Past-President of the Canadian Condominium Institute (Toronto), where he served on its Board of Directors for 18 years and Co-Chaired the joint Legislative and Government Relations Committee with ACMO, which prepared and submitted an extensive legislative brief to the Ontario government with recommendations for changes to the Condominium Act, 1998 (the “Act”). Armand has been on all the government committees involved in the reform of the Act and was one of 11 people appointed to the government's Expert Panel that conducted the final analysis of the Act. Armand was a founding director of the Condominium Authority of Ontario and sat on its Board for nearly four years. Armand is the 2020 recipient of the CCI (Toronto) Distinguished Service Award. Armand is also a recipient of the ACMO Special Recognition Award which is presented to recognize an individual for special achievements and services that have positively impacted the condominium industry in Ontario. Armand is the Past Chair of CCI (Toronto)’s Legislative Committee and remains on the Committee, which with the other seven Ontario chapters of CCI is preparing various submissions to the government on the next reforms of the Act to be proclaimed. He is past Chair of CCI National’s Government Relations Committee and prepared all 5 editions of the CCI National publication “Canadian Condominium Legislation – A Coast to Coast Comparison”. |
Salim Dharssi Salim Dharssi is the CEO and Founder of managemate, a software company streamlining operations between condominium boards and managers. Using managemate, boards and managers can plan, track and organize their work, all in one place online. Salim has a degree in computer engineering from the University of Waterloo a law degree from Osgoode Hall. Before starting managemate, Salim practiced IP and technology law for 10 years. Salim started working in the condominium industry after joining his condominium board. He quickly learned that boards and managers have immense responsibilities, including maintenance, improvements, community, and financial management. Understanding that boards and managers relied on emails, file folders and spreadsheets to organize their records and share work status updates, Salim set out to create modern tools to help boards and managers work together more efficiently. Managemate’s vision is to improve the quality and affordability of condominium living. Salim continues to volunteer on his condominium board, and he also volunteers with CCI Toronto’s Education Committee. |
Heather Dickenson, OLCM, RCM Heather Dickenson is one of three Property Managers at Dickenson Condo Management. She grew up in the family condo management business but pursued a career in banking and investment management. In 2018, she joined Dickenson Condo Management, obtaining her license as a certified Registered Condominium Manager with the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) in 2020, and is licensed under the Condominium Management Services Act. Heather is a member of the Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI) on a national level, as well as Vice President and Co-chair of the education committee for the London & Area Chapter. |
Doug Forbes, LL.B. Doug Forbes was introduced to condominium law as an articling student in 1989, and then as a unit owner. Doug subsequently became a member of the Board of Directors of his Condominium’s Corporation, and eventually President. Doug has been a professional member of the Canadian Condominium Institute (Manitoba Chapter) for over 30 years. He has been on the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Chapter since 1998 and is a Past President of the Manitoba Chapter. Doug is also the Chair of the Manitoba Chapter’s Government Relations Committee. As a partner in the law firm of Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP, Doug acts for condominium corporations, developers, lenders, and individuals in apartment, townhouse, and bare land style condominiums. |
Tony P. Gatto, CPA, CA Tony Gatto has a general accounting, auditing and income tax practice. He has been involved in real estate accounting for over 20 years and has established a specialization in the Condominium Industry. Tony recently was a member of the Committee which updated the "Accounting and Auditing Guidelines for Ontario Condominium Corporations", published by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He has spoken at several seminars and conferences held on condominiums related matters. Tony is the current CCI-National Treasurer and a member of CCI-Golden Horseshoe Chapter. |
Ryan Griffiths Ryan Griffiths is the Director, Condominium Finance, at CWB Maxium Financial, a division of Canadian Western Bank. Ryan works closely with condo boards and their communities to develop and implement the right financial solution for their needs and specializes in arranging innovative financing for major condominium repair and maintenance projects. As a financial expert with over 20 years of experience, he enhances the knowledge of his clients by providing the information and tools they need to make informed financial decisions. Ryan is an active member of the condominium community and currently serves as a board member for the Canadian Condominium Institute (“CCI”) Huronia Chapter, and on various committees for the Toronto, Golden Horseshoe and Grand River Chapters of CCI. |
Marie Hanchet Marie is a collaborative sustainability professional who thrives supporting the housing and building industry in reducing energy, water, and GHG emissions and has a special interest in multifamily housing. She led the early adoption of reporting corporate ESG performance for private building portfolios and supported research in the value of LEED in condos. Prior to joining the City, she led a National Net Zero Renovation pilot project as well as an applied RD&D project on pre-fabricated, affordable, net zero energy multifamily housing with builders across the country with the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. She now serves the City of Ottawa in implementing the Better Buildings program for private building decarbonization when she’s not in class for her Masters in Building Engineering or coaching girls recreational soccer. |
Jamie Herle, LL.B., LCCI Jamie Herle is a lawyer who’s practice focuses on general corporate, commercial and business transactions, commercial and residential real estate with a specialty in condominium law. Jamie has been involved in every aspect of condominiums from development to board governance and owner disputes. Jamie has been involved with the Canadian Condominium Institute for 17 years at both a local and national level. She is currently the Chair (Past President) of the National Executive. She frequently presents on condominium issues and provides education courses for board members and owners. In addition to law and condominiums Jamie likes to stay involved in the community volunteering and sitting on various boards and committees when not running after her two daughters. |
Luis Hernandez, LL.B. Luis Hernandez is a condominium lawyer with Levitt Di Lella Duggan & Chaplick LLP. His practice is focused on condominium work, including solicitor and litigation-related matters. He has appeared before numerous courts and tribunals, including the Ontario Court of Appeal, Superior Court of Justice, and the Condominium Authority Tribunal. He serves as a director on the Board of the CCI Windsor-Essex chapter and was the chair of the former National Resource Content committee before it merged into the ARCC committee. |
Deborah Howes, LLB, FCCI, CTAJ, CDIDC, C. Med. Deborah Howes is a Fellow of the Canadian Condominium Institute. She served as the CCI National President and Chair, and as North Alberta Chapter President and Chair. She co-authored and edited the first Alberta Condominium Management 100 – 300 materials. Deborah Howes has twice been a member of the Alberta Advisory Committee and Task Force on the condominium Act. She chaired the Condominium Manager Industry Advisory Committee for the Real Estate Council of Alberta. Deborah has over 30 years former experience in the condominium industry as an owner, board member, lawyer, mediator, arbitrator, meeting chair, educator, administrator and insurance trustee. |
Stacey Kurck, OLCM, RCM, CMCA As Vice President, Client Engagement & Business Development, Stacey develops and leads the Ontario market strategies and initiatives for all prospective business opportunities, while promoting continuous community growth and client satisfaction. Prior to joining FirstService Residential, Stacey established a boutique property management firm specializing in condominium management throughout the GTA and sold tit successfully in July 2017. Stacey is a Registered Condominium Manager (RCM), Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA), and holds her Ontario License for Condominium Management (OLCM). She is a Member of Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) and the Canadian Condominium Institute of Toronto (CCI-T), where she also volunteers her time as a Board Member, along with volunteering on various committees. Outside of work, Stacey is facilitator at Humber College, where she teaches several CMRAO courses that are a requirement to obtain the OLCM. |
Kelly MacDonald Kelly MacDonald has been happily assisting condominium managers and boards with their roofing related needs at Detail Roofing & Sheet Metal since 2017. In her role of Client Engagement & Events, she is dedicated to providing engaging educational content through regular webinars, in-person seminars, and articles, all to help audiences better understand their roof and how to maximize its lifespan. Kelly is a member of the Toronto, Golden Horseshoe, and Grand River Chapters and serves on the National Events, Toronto Sponsorship, and Golden Horseshoe Professional & Business Partner committees. |
Stacey Malcolm, OLCM Having devoted over a decade to the Condominium industry, Stacey has primarily served as a key contributor within Condominium Management Group (CMG) in Ottawa. After holding a variety of roles from Property Administrator to Assistant General Manager, she currently serves as the Resource & Compliance Manager, leading a department she played a crucial role in developing to meet industry demands post-amendments to the Condominium Act and the introduction of the CAO and CMRAO in 2017. In this role, she supports various teams, delivering a range of services to CMG clients. Stacey, a licensed Condominium Manager actively pursuing her RCM and LCCI designations, is presently on maternity leave but continues to play an active role in the condominium community. Beyond her responsibilities at CMG, she serves as Director and Membership Chair for the CCI Eastern Ontario Chapter, holds a position on CCI-EO’s Management Advisory Committee, and is Co-Chair of the National Events Committee. Her commitment to education is evident in her advocacy for CCI membership, believing it is crucial for both Managers and Condo Directors in the rapidly changing industry. |
Maggie Matian Maggie Matian is a Marketing Manager at Theresa Place Media Inc. and an award-winning creative. Her background in design, advertising, and copywriting, has been an immeasurable benefit to the clients she maintains. Maggie's journey with CCI began in early 2022 and focused on just one chapter. Now, she oversees five chapters across Canada for all their various social media needs. |
Lyndsey McNally, LCCI Lyndsey McNally has worked with condominium corporations in the Greater Toronto Area and across Canada since 2002 in a variety of roles including administration, physical building management, financial management, organizational management, and policy oversight. At CWB Maxium Financial, Lyndsey develops and implements customized financing solutions for condominium corporations. Lyndsey was elected to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Condominium Institute in 2018 and is currently President of the Toronto & Area Chapter, and Director-at-Large for the National Executive Board. She is a member of the Discipline Committee for the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario, and faculty instructor at Humber College teaching financial management for condominium corporations. Lyndsey also takes an interest on a municipal level having acted as Chair of the Property Standards and Animal Services Appeals Committee for the Town of Ajax for 2 terms and is a current Board member for the Ajax Municipal Housing Corporation. |
Geoff Penney, LL.B, ACCI Geoff Penney practices primarily in the areas of civil litigation, condominium law, construction law, property development, contract law, and insurance law. He regularly advises individual and corporate clients and condominium boards on a variety of issues. He has represented clients in all levels of court within the Province and at various tribunals and commissions. Geoff is past national executive president of the Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI) and past national executive chairman. He is also past president of the Newfoundland and Labrador chapter of CCI. Geoff has presented numerous condominium related seminars and holds the designation of Associate of the Canadian Condominium Institute (ACCI). He was admitted to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in 1999. |
Theresa Place Theresa Place is the President and founder of Theresa Place Media Inc., a marketing and administrative agency focusing on social media, email marketing, and event planning. She offers extensive Chapter Admin, Event Planning and Marketing support to multiple chapters across the country. Theresa began her journey with CCI in 2007, took a hiatus in 2015 to explore other avenues, she returned to CCI in 2020. She currently volunteers on the ARCC (Advertising, Resource Center, and Communications) committee for CCI National. |
Sharon Siuksteris Sharon is currently the co-Chair of the National Events committee. She joined this committee last winter and helped organize the National Leaders Forum and conference that was hosted in Saskatoon. She currently is the Chair of the Education committee for the North Saskatchewan chapter. She has served on her condo board for 5 years and a Board member for CCI North Saskatchewan Chapter for the last four years. She has found this volunteer work very rewarding, helping to educate Condo Board Directors. She knows there is still lots to learn and looks forward to new challenges and endeavors that lie ahead. |
Bill Thompson Bill has been very active in the condominium management field since 1985, having recently retired from the management of Condominiums in 2022. He currently is acting as a Court Appointed Administrator for two condominiums and has done so since 2005. Bill has taken a volunteer role in CCI for over thirty-five years. He has sat on numerous committees dealing with various matters in the condominium market, concentrating his efforts on standardization and improvement in condominium service provision, ethics of Management services providers, and relationship management within condominiums. He is past president of the Toronto Chapter of CCI as well as past president of CCI National and was awarded the FCCI Designation in 2010 as well as the Ron Danks National Volunteer Leadership Award in 2018. He is eternally grateful for all that CCI has given him over the years. |
Justin Tudor, P.Eng., LCCI Justin is the President and Senior Project Manager at Keller Engineering, a multi-discipline building science and envelope firm which has been providing tailored engineering investigatory and project management services with a focus on condominium restoration since 1982. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field of building science and structural engineering. Justin is the Co-Chair of the CCI National Business Plan Implementation and Review Committee and has volunteered in numerous chapter positions. |
