Why Handling Conflict Resolution is Critical
From the Summer 2025 issue of the CCI South Alberta CCI Review
Living in a condominium has numerous advantages, including shared amenities and a vibrant community atmosphere. However, disputes can frequently emerge among condo owners and the board. Living in proximity can present unique challenges, like managing diverse personalities as a condo manager. No one is flawless, but how you handle a situation can determine whether your community thrives in harmony.
New Concept Management Inc. believes that tackling conflict resolution proactively and constructively is essential. Focus on communication, understanding, and reaching mutually acceptable solutions. This approach involves establishing clear communication channels, encouraging open discussions, acting as a mediator, and occasionally enlisting professional mediation services. It's also important to understand these key factors:
- Every condominium community has specific bylaws, rules, and regulations. Take time to understand your responsibilities.
- Effective communication forms the foundation of conflict resolution in condominium management. Condo managers urge owners to express their concerns via written requests, emails, or in-person meetings. Prompt and transparent communication often helps prevent minor issues from developing into significant conflicts.
- Your Condo Manager manages the community and helps to mitigate conflicts. Communicate concerns, ask to be heard at board meetings, and participate in discussions on community issues. By collaborating with management, residents contribute to creating a more harmonious living environment.
- Stay informed about updates and changes within the condominium community. Attend community meetings, read newsletters, and watch for any modifications to the governing documents. Staying informed enables residents to anticipate potential conflicts and tackle them proactively.
- Embrace Compromise: Resolving conflicts frequently necessitates that all parties involved make concessions. Open yourself to hearing various viewpoints and consider alternative solutions that meet everyone's needs, as everyone's needs play a crucial role in promoting community and collaboration within the condominium.
Until next time…
