Make Sure Your Winter is a Grand Ol’ Time
You can probably use one hand to count all the people you know who love the winter season. For the rest of us, finding the motivation to do any activities (regardless if they are indoors or outdoors) can feel like the world’s largest Band-Aid is being ripped off in slow motion.

Lucky for you, we’ve found a few events in the Grand River area that will make you overlook how long it takes to wrap yourself up in warm clothes before heading out for the day.
Waterloo Public Square
Looking for a great impromptu date idea? Check out the Waterloo Public Square for the “Skate Night, Date Nights” on Wednesdays for an evening of live music, skating, and food every Wednesday in February from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Waterloo Park
When was the last time you visited Eby Farm, if ever? Come for the oldest log house school in the Waterloo Region and stay for the llamas and alpacas.
Take a hike in Laurel Park
Grab your family, and your nearest “Winter Birds of Canada” book, and enjoy the Grand River Conservation Area.
Pinehurst Lake
Plowed hiking trails, groomed and tracked cross-country skiing trails, snowshoeing trails… what DOESN’T the Pinehurst Lake conversation area have?
Did we mention this conservation area offers both ice fishing AND bird watching? Save space in your car and rent your equipment on-site.
Enjoy the St Jacobs Farmers’ Market
Have you visited the St Jacobs Farmers’ Market in the winter? It’s a whole different experience.
Open all year round on Thursdays and Saturdays, this market is a favourite place to shop for fresh produce, grab their famous apple fritters, and meet some old Mennonites (who still use horse and buggy to visit the market).
But that’s not all you can do… stop by the Market Building, the Peddlers Village, or the Market Tent for locally grown, and fresh eats.
And don’t forget to pick up some gifts from local artisans before you leave!
The Grand River area is filled to the brim with exciting, and warming activities. Either as a solo trip or with friends and family.
