Auditor General's Report: Value for Money Condo Oversight in Ontario – December 2020
The CCI-Toronto Legislative Committee wants to ensure all members are aware that the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario released a report on December 7, 2020 entitled the “Value-for-Money Audit Condominium Oversight in Ontario” (the “AG Report”). The detailed report can be found here.
Key areas of focus within the AG report include:
- Implementation of the 2015 Legislative Reforms;
- Powers of the Condominium Authority of Ontario and the Condominium Regulatory Authority of Ontario, and the effectiveness of their operations since 2017;
- Areas for Improvement related to Dispute Resolution;
- Protection for Buyers of New Condominiums; and
- Adequacy of Reserve Funds
At this time, our volunteer experts are reviewing the report in detail to determine ways that we can provide support to our members and the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services related to the 20 recommendations contained within the AG Report.
We encourage all members to read the report in detail to educate yourselves about what future reforms to the condominium industry might like look. CCI-Toronto will ensure that we communicate our efforts in a timely manner, and provide information to our members about any public consultations that may occur as a result of future reform.
